MA Design | Class of 2020
Sharron Stewart is an illustrator and graphic designer combining digital and traditional art. Favouring pen and ink, vector illustrations and digital gouache, the project challenged her to experiment with different styles and recreation of traditional art forms.
In response to animal welfare, the theme for this work is animal representation using historical cultural norms through the medium of folktales and the responsibilities of designers using animal imagery. Originally intending to use different traditional mediums and techniques, it was adapted to restrictions and moved to using almost completely digital painting techniques.
The project outcome is an illustrated book of animal folktales using the traditional art styles of the area the tales originate from.
