Sophie Ellingworth

MA Photography | Class of 2020

Sophie Ellingworth is a lens-based artist and photographer working in the North East of England, UK. Using a range of visual strategies such as staged images, self-portraits, documentary and portraiture, she has explored fourth wave feminism, specifically the representation of women within society and issues of identity. She often responds to experiences in her life and explores wider cultural and social issues, engaging within different communities to get a range of inputs and experiences. Since completing an undergraduate degree in Photography, Video and Digital Imaging, she is working towards an MA in Photography, also at the University of Sunderland.

For as long as I can remember I have lacked confidence. My body wasn’t like the others I saw. Nature allows freedom. The waves flowing over my skin. The sand between my toes. The ocean breeze across my face. I am her and I am free.
