Sophie Henderson

MA Design | Class of 2020

I have a keen interest in pattern, texture, technique and form balance. Favouring hand-crafted, labour-intensive traditional skills.

My work explores the possibilities of material manipulation and surface design. Working predominantly with waste materials, this practice exhibits the potential for creating new textiles composites using only handmade techniques. With a strong leaning towards sustainable design, and an interest in sentimentally charged objects, my work has exposed potential for waste materials to be manipulated at the end of their life cycle. The techniques discovered may prove useful for object-based learning within the educational setting.
