Movement

I decided to explore the idea of movement, experimenting with a variety of different abstract painting techniques. Initially, I wanted to focus around the nostalgic memories of the seaside, particularly the beach. However, once lockdown began, the beach was no longer a destination for fun family days out; instead it became a place to clear my head. This led me to change the direction of my project –exploring the strong wave of emotions most people were experiencing. I chose to explore this using both abstract techniques I had refined during my fluid art experiments as well as utilising the figure. I wanted to convey the idea of overthinking and being consumed by your own thoughts by immersingor capturing a female nude within layers of paint; simultaneously paying homage to the paintings produced during the Renaissance period (which, itself, emerged due to the black death).
