Reclaimed by Nature
I set out to create my final major project exploring fashion, the alter-modern runway and how textiles are manipulated to create amazing silhouettes; however, due to the pandemic and having to work from home, I took to nature to inspire my drawings. I created illustrations and surface designs intended to be used for fashion by utilising animals, plants and natural forms. I brought some of these to life by using animation, to display how life has been able to recover due to the pandemic. Spending time with family led me to be inspired by children’s books, cartoons and clothing, which can be seen implemented in colour scheme and expressive illustration ideas. I developed drawings of animals for surface prints that are not often used in fashion such as beetles and fish to celebrate the less ‘pretty’ creatures that are just as integral for our ecosystem. From this I created a concept piece of how I would utilise my designs.
