BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker: Glass and Ceramics | Class of 2021
Claire Finlay is a multi-discipline artist living in the North East of England. With a deep appreciation of the natural world, Claire is continually inspired by her surroundings, collecting organic and non-organic materials on daily walks. She observes and preserves organic materials before they wither and die; she transforms these forms, encapsulating them in ceramics or casting them in metal to hold in stasis their fragile natural beauty. Claire is influenced by artists such as David Watkins for his miniature sculptures which are developed to become larger scale wearable objects and Gillian Lowndes whose sculptural work is created from found objects. The ultimate goal of her work is to generate a meaningful interaction between the body and her preserved art forms of nature.
