Fine Art | Class of 2020
My practise is mainly based around painting. When I first immigrated to the UK and started university I focused primarily on the bodies of overweight women. My main materials were palette knives and oil paint. However, after some heavy criticism of my work and ideas from my church I had to take some time away; after coming back in second year I produced observational pop art pieces using acrylic paints and brushes as I could no longer afford oils.
In my final year I left the Mormon church and ended my marriage, I gained the confidence to return to my previous ideas even though it was a very uncomfortable process for me; I produced paintings, sculptures, videos, photos and drawings based on body image and colour and more recently ideas surrounding life and death in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
