Back to the 90s
My initial goal for this project was to take inspiration from 90s icons to create garments or posters. Within this project I wanted to extend previous work where I created a shoe collection based on ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ in collaboration with Vans. I did this via illustration, pattern making and styling inspired mainly from 90’s television and after conducting a range of digital and practical experiments, I decided to focus on creating advertisements for brands such as Vans, Blind or Dickies. My final work exists as a series of illustrated advertisements for women’s skate wear utilising styling photography as a basis for composition, including the phrase ‘Why take the road when you can fly?’ as a tagline slogan from 90s film ‘The Skateboard Kid’. The knowledge I have developed from a digital perspective during this project has been invaluable and will be certainly carried forward onto degree study.
