Patterns On Repeat
Capturing images of neon signs over time, I discovered an interest in exploring the aesthetic of the Cyberpunk genre and its use of lively fluorescent colours – these hold a fundamental role in the bustling world of cities that never sleep.
Inspired by my Localism project, I combined a similar concept of remixing and manipulating a segment of an image to create a distinctive pattern allowing my work to be perceived in several ways; a digital wallpaper, surface design pattern, etc. I re-purposed the design of signboards digitally, influenced by the concept of preserving signboards from @streetsignhk – a project based in Hong Kong. I then explored the ‘in-depth signboard stories of Hong Kong… promoting signboard-streetscape as urban heritage’. It was my intention to reveal the significance of neon colours in architecture and create this ambience in a style of my own, through various digital methods.
