Rescuing Thomas, Rescuing Me
Owning a dog can bring much needed companionship and unconditional love into someone’s life. When that dog is a rescue dog, the rewards can be so much greater. However, these rewards can sometimes come with additional challenges. Occasionally, a dog that has been placed in a rescue shelter may have behavioural and, or psychological problems. When a person rehoming such a dog has mental health issues of their own, both can benefit from the mutual understanding and strong, non-judgemental bond that can form.
This is the case with Thomas, (a six-year-old Rottweiler whom I have recently taken in) and myself. Using Instagram as a platform to reach out, connect with others and tell our developing story. Our aim is to share our experiences and how we help each other daily.
The images taken from Thomas’s perspective are purposely edited to a blue and grainy tone, to emphasise how a dog may perceive the world around him.
