A Graphical Exploration of The Powers of Censorship.

My final project investigates the nature of censorship after discovering the Polish School of Posters movement, learning the Soviet Union’s control over all media outlets. I found this idea of a government ‘spoon-feeding’ the population a false image of reality an interesting form of censorship, which is of course still relevant in today’s society.

I began the project by exploring different forms of censorship I found in the everyday as well as discovering new techniques which supported the theme well, such as halftone, pixilation, and collage. The unique circumstances of lockdown lead to the exploration of current events as well as new techniques due to a lack of resources. Through this, I learned to embrace imperfections as part of the work. As censorship in higher powers will always be relevant, I will continue development of this theme in the future, exploring more techniques to accompany it.
