The Last Dance

Self-expression is of great importance to me as a creator. This is where my project began, researching artists, writers and poets who all express themselves unequivocally, using sensitive, profound, personal and sometimes unapologetic approaches. Derek Jarman was a major influence, particularly his deeply personal book, Chroma whereby he offered a historic, poetic and personal account of colour.

I wanted to portray my views of life and death and the bits in between also, via drawing, illustration and design and perhaps some poetry. I took inspiration form 90’s basketball focusing on the player Dennis Rodman who is a highly talented but deeply complicated character. I then developed a range of drawings that were translated into t-shirt designs, which could easily be developed for a high-end brands such as Gucci or streetwear brands such as Teen Hearts. I have come to respect greatly the notion of self-expression and its importance in my design.
