‘Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.’ James Baldwin.

Race issues in our society need to change. My current work is an observation of racial issues in our society and within my own family. Underneath a thin layer of skin, starting from the dermis, we are all the same. How can a simple, complex, beautiful organ, skin, the epidermis be so problematic to humanity?

My work is a course of action to rejoice and ooze our variation of colour. I want to confront racism through my work. Celebrate skin colour and where we originated from. We were all connected to our birth mothers. The umbilical cord is our first human connection.

I have produced photographs and acrylic paintings of the navel. I have made a short film of myself repeating the responses of my models, after I asked them if I could take a photograph of their navel. My work is inspired by Wolfgang Tillmans.

My theme is a continuation of reflection which began in September 2020.
