BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker: Glass and Ceramics | Class of 2021
Albert Camus writes about the myth of Sisyphus and the absurdity of the human condition. “The Absurd” refers to the conflict between our desire to seek inherent value and meaning in life, and the human inability to find these with any certainty. As an artist and maker, the process of creation and the quest for perfection is never ending. In a similar way to Sisyphus’ fate to push a rock up the mountain, only for it to roll back down again, it is not the end, but the journey that is inherently “the final goal”. The Briefcase represents the odyssey that has been and is yet to come as a glass artist. The accompanying pieces allude to the tension in the human ability to create narratives and explore the limits both in materiality and purpose.
