Fine Art | Class of 2020
I create portraits, working from digital images, and use pencils, acrylics and soft pastels to produce my work. I place emphasis on accuracy, seeking to capture not only skin texture, and bone structure, but also the wisdom, knowledge and life experiences etched into the face of the subject.
I also create landscapes and seascapes, typically with an emphasis on my love of history and of the North East of England. I can work on a large scale, and have produced 6’ x 6’ paintings on canvas.
Although I am influenced by realism I do not feel constrained to create an absolute likeness of the subject. I believe that the eye of the artist offers an extra quality in interpreting a personality or scene, delivering an alternative to a photographic image.
